Russian Sberbank’s head of TMT investment banking, David Theys, has left the bank, TelecomFinance has learnt.
Theys joined Troika Dialog in June 2012, six months after the acquisition of Troika by Sberbank as it sought to expand its investment banking activities.
Coming from London-based TMT advisory firm Arma Partners, he was brought in to manage and expand key relationships in the TMT sector and, as a Troika press release issued at the time put it, to ensure “Troika Dialog remains at the forefront of landmark TMT transactions in our region”.
A Sberbank spokesperson confirmed Theys’ departure. Ivan Sinchilo now oversees all TMT activity at the bank in his role as managing director, deputy head of the corporate clients division and head of the telecommunications and media business unit, the spokesperson said.
Sberbank is currently advising on the privatisation of Russian telco Rostelecom. The bank also handled Megafon’s listing in late 2012.
The spokesperson noted that investment banking “continues to grow and expand as a strategic business area” for the bank.
While it remained unclear what Theys would be doing next, it is understood that he will relocate to Dubai to take on a new position there.
