Naguib Sawiris, who recently confirmed interest in taking a stake in Telecom Italia, is also interested in Vivendi’s French unit SFR.
The Egyptian telecoms investor revealed his interest in SFR in an interview with the Financial Times. Sawiris told the newspaper that the size of a deal – SFR has an estimated value of between €13bn and €14bn – would not be manageable by Sawiris’ funds alone.
Sawiris, who is an investor and co-founder of Accelero Capital, was quoted saying that acquiring SFR assets “would require a big group”.
Vivendi is also in talks with cableco Numericable about a possible tie-up of its French telecoms assets. A person with knowledge of the situation told TelecomFinance recently that those talks are “very serious”.
Today’s FT quoted a person close to Vivendi saying that a deal with a local player was more likely than with an external investor.
