Netia head Adam Sawicki will become the new CEO of T-Mobile Polska on 1 June.
Sawicki, who resigned from his current role as president and CEO of Netia in January, will report to Claudia Nemat, board member for Europe and technology at parent company Deutsche Telekom. He replaces Zacharias Piperidis, who has served as interim CEO since 1 November 2014, following the resignation of Miroslav Rakowski.
Nemat said Sawicki is clearly “the right man to tackle the Polish telecommunications market and industry”.
“As a former CEO of GTS Central Europe and with his extensive international experience in the business and residential markets, he is a perfect strategic fit to help us ‘Lead in Business’ – a key element of our company’s strategy – and integrate the GTS operations we recently acquired.”
She also thanked Piperidis for his work as interim CEO, describing the Polish mobile sector as a “hard-fought market that has no shortage of challenges”.
Before starting at Netia, Poland’s second-largest fixed-line operator, Sawicki was CEO of GTS Central Europe, which Deutsche Telekom acquired last year. Before that, he was president and CEO of Ruch Internet. Earlier in his career, Sawicki held various senior management positions within Sweden’s Telia Group (now TeliaSonera), gaining experience in the Scandinavian, British, Irish, Russian, Polish and other Central European telecoms markets.
T-Mobile Polska is the country’s largest mobile operator and competes with Orange’s local unit, P4 (Play) and Polkomtel (Plus).
