Satellite operators and service providers raced to restore critical communication after an underwater volcano off the cost of South Pacific island of Tonga erupted violently Jan. 15, causing tsunamis that hit three different continents. Several Earth-observing satellites collected data during and after the eruption, which NASA scientists estimated was equivalent to 5-6 megatons of TNT. […]
