Sat-GE, the satellite operator that was spun out of SES as part of the transaction with General Electric, has changed its name to GE-Satellite.
The move is part of a wider rebranding process as the company seeks to give itself a new corporate identity more in line with parent company General Electric’s guidelines for wholly owned companies.
Sat-GE was formed out of the E1.2bn split-off transaction that SES undertook in early 2007. That deal saw General Electric swap its 19.5% holding in SES for a new company, SES International Holdings Inc (SIH). SIH comprised E588m in cash, the AMC 23 satellite and its related business, 100% of Satlynx, SES’ two-way satellite broadband communication service provider subsidiary, and SES’ minority stakes in AsiaSat, Star One and Orbcomm. SIH subsequently changed its name to Sat-GE and was run by SatLynx.
