The general director of Russian holding company Svyazinvest has been appointed as chair of local telecoms giant Rostelecom.
Vadim Semenov has been elected to lead the board as the two state-controlled entities merge, taking over from Ivan Rodionov who remains as a director.
Semenov previously had a spell at Rostelecom between 2009 and 2010 when he served as vice president for legal matters and corporate development, and as corporate development adviser to the operator’s president.
He has been working in the telecoms sector since 1999 and spent six years at Rostelecom rival Megafon earlier in his career.
Semenov’s appointment follows that of a new CFO last month and a new president in March.
Russia is unifying Svyazinvest and Rostelecom to simplify the operator’s ownership structure ahead of a possible privatisation of the telco. State-controlled banking group VTB recently purchased Tele2 Russia and reports have suggested it could merge the operator with Rostelecom. The telco could reportedly also be split between the country’s three largest mobile operators.
