The El Salvador competition authorities have dismissed an appeal by America Movil and Digicel over a ruling that could lead to the local subsidiaries of the Mexican telecoms giant giving up spectrum.
America Movil is seeking to acquire Digicel’s operations in El Salvador as a part of a deal between the companies announced in March.
The El Salvador competition authority (SC) ruled in August that in order to allow the deal, the subsidiaries of America Movil must give up the right to use 20 MHz of spectrum that they currently hold.
In a statement yesterday, the SC said it had dismissed the appeal made by the companies against this earlier ruling.
