Sweden’s Post and Telecommunications Agency (PTS) has closed its auction of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, having raised almost SKr1.35bn (E148m) from TeliaSonera and the infrastructure JV Net4Mobility.
The auction was divided into two stages.
In the first, new entrants and existing spectrum licensees were able to bid for the seven blocks of 2x5MHz available. This was concluded last week, with TeliaSonera agreeing to pay SKr920m (US$139m) to acquire five of the blocks and Net4Mobility agreeing to pay SKr430m (US$65m) for the two other blocks.
Including the licences in the band that the two companies already held, this means that both Net4Mobility and TeliaSonera hold 2×35 MHz in the 1800 MHz band.
In the second stage, concluded on Monday, the placement of this spectrum was decided.
TeliaSonera will have licences for 1710-1745 MHz uplink band and 1805-1840 MHz downlink band.
Net4Mobility will have licences for 1745-1780 MHz uplink band and 1840-1875 MHz downlink band.
These licences will apply from 1 January 2013 and last for 25 years.
Net4Mobility is a 50-50 infrastructure JV between the Swedish unit of Norwegian telco Telenor and the Swedish mobile operator Tele2.
Another bidder, Hi3G Access, also participated in the bidding process, but failed to win any spectrum.
