Norway’s Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) is calling for registrations to participate in its upcoming auction of 2Ghz frequencies as well as input on the draft rules.
The deadline for both registration and the consultation period on the rules, which include details of how many frequency blocks participants may bid for, is 22 October, the authority said today.
NPT published a tentative schedule for the auction process on 12 September, which initially set the deadline for registration and input on the draft rules as 26 October. Aside from this amendment, the schedule remains unchanged. However, the authority stated it may need to make amendments at a later date.
The auction is for nationwide spectrum in the 2GHz band, currently used mainly for mobile broadband services, and will be subject to Norwegian administrative law. The draft rules state nine blocks will be made available: two of 2 x 4.8MHz and seven of 2 x 5.0MHz. The reserve price for each paired block is NOK5,000,000 (US$873,217). Licences will be technology neutral and valid for 20 years.
The auction rules are expected to be finalised on 5 November, while the auction itself is set for 19 November.
The rules currently dictate any person or entity registered in the EEA or Switzerland may register for the auction.
Norway’s four mobile network operators are Telenor, TeliaSonera’s NetCom, Tele2’s Network Norway and Access Industries’ ICE.net.
