Qatar Telecom remains on the lookout for M&A opportunities in the Middle East and Asia.
Qtel CEO Nasser Marafih told the Financial Times that the group is “still on the lookout for good acquisition opportunities” despite concerns over its debt burden, adding: “Scale is important, and we think we will see more consolidation in the Middle East.”
The Qatari operator has previously ruled out acquisitions in Africa but is confident that it can play a significant role in any further consolidation in the Middle East.
Qtel is currently estimated to have debt of around US$9.9bn.
