Kosovo has cancelled the privatisation of telecoms incumbent PTK after Croatia’s T-HT withdraw from the process following corruption allegations against senior management, Reuters report.
In June, T-HT, the Croatian telco owned by Deutsche Telekom, and Telekom Austria had been shortlisted for the privatisation of 75% of PTK.
The minister of economic development, Besim Beqaj, was quoted saying that the government committee for the privatisation of PTK decided to start a new process because the sale could not continue with only one bidder.
PTK CEO Shyqyri Haxha and board chairman Rexhe Gjonbalaj have reportedly been accused of signing harmful contracts and abusing official positions. Haxha has reportedly denied the accusations.
For the privatisation, the authorities are advised by a consortium of Telco AG and law firm Wolf Theiss.
The authorities did not reply to request for comments before press time.
