ProInversion, the Peruvian government’s agency to attract FDI has cancelled a project to provide telecoms services in rural areas as the bidders did not present any financial offers.
The agency, speaking to Business News Americas, said it would seek to re-launch the process with similar technical conditions but was unable to provide further details on the new timeline.
The government hoped that the winning company would provide public and local telephony as well as broadband services in 370 rural municipalities in Puno and Madre de Dios regions as part of the licence. ProInversion anticipated the cost of the roll-out to be US$7m.
The operators that were allegedly in the contest were Mexico’s America Movil, as well as Movistar, ZIV and Argepe consortiums.
