Israeli mobile operator Pelephone is to host an unspecified MVNO on its network, reports Telegeography.
Last summer, Telecom 365 was granted Israel’s first MVNO licence by the country’s Communications Ministry, which is looking to boost competition and lower the rates paid by consumers.
The Israeli mobile market, which boasts a penetration of about 125%, is home to Cellcom, Partner Communications, Pelephone and Mirs.
Telecom 365, a subsidiary of department store owner Hamashbir, now has six months to agree a deal to use the network of one of the existing operators or the Communications Ministry will step in and fix a price for which the infrastructure can be leased. The Ministry said in a statement that a further six applications from potential MVNOs were being considered.
Pelephone was not available for comment by press time.
