Investors Ronny Pecik and Naguib Sawiris may reportedly seek to match OeIAG’s 28.42% stake in Telekom Austria via their private investment unit RPR Privatstiftung.
Austrian newspaper Kurier quoted Pecik as saying he could imagine drawing level with state holding company OeIAG’s stake in the Austrian incumbent, which he described as undervalued and undermanaged.
As previously announced, Pecik and Sawiris have built their combined stake in Telekom Austria to 20.1% since late 2011 via RPR Privatstiftung and have publically said they intend to increase it.
The news comes about a week after another Austrian newspaper, Die Presse, reported Pecik will gain two new seats on the Telekom Austria supervisory board, replace Edith Hlawati on the supervisory board steering committee and instigate the appointment of a chief operating officer.
The report stated that Egyptian businessman Sawiris will also gain a seat on the supervisory board, replacing a current member.
At the time, Telekom Austria declined to comment on the matter but a company spokesperson pointed out new supervisory board members are generally appointed at the annual general meeting, after which new management board members may be named.
