Hong Kong firm PCCW has reportedly submitted a bid for a free to air TV licence from the government.
PCCW is one of three recent applicants for a licence, which would enable them to compete with Television Broadcasts and Asia Television. i-Cable Communications and City Telecom applied for licences earlier this year and are awaiting a decision.
PCCW has estimated that capex and opex requirements for its first three years of offering free-to-air TV services would be around HK$600m (US$77.1m). The fixed line operator already provides pay TV services through Now TV, which is broadcast via high-speed broadband in Hong Kong.
