The Swedish parliament has voted against a proposal by the government to allow it to sell the state-owned stakes in several businesses, including its 37.3% stake in telco TeliaSonera.
172 parliamentarians voted against the bill, with just 170 in favour. The bill was opposed by several parties in the parliament. These included the Social Democrats, which at 112 members is the largest individual party in the parliament.
The government is a centre-right coalition, in which the largest group is the Moderate Party, which holds 107 seats in the parliament.
The Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and TeliaSonera did not respond to questions before the press deadline.
