Greek incumbent OTE has appointed Michael Tsamaz, 52, currently head of mobile operator subsidiary Cosmote, as chairman and CEO, effective from November 3.
Tsamaz replaces Panagis Vourloumis, 73, who is stepping down after six years at the helm.
The appointment was agreed by OTE’s two controlling shareholders, German incumbent Deutsche Telecom (30%) and the Greek state (20%).
A spokesperson for OTE declined to elaborate on the shareholders’ decision, but said the move sees Tsamaz become the group’s youngest chairman and CEO so far. Vourloumis has also stayed in office longer than any of his predecessors.
“OTE’s contribution is a key factor in the technological advancement of Greece as well as SE Europe,” said Tsamaz.
“Its transformation, which began under the management of Mr Panagis Vourloumis, must continue even faster, in order to ensure OTE’s healthy growth, an excellent work environment, the development of its employees and adequate returns to its shareholders, through products and services that satisfy our customers.”
