Russia’s State Commission for Radio Frequencies is expected to award LTE frequencies to Osnova Telekom this month, according to media reports.
Voyentelekom, which is owned by the ministry of defence, holds 25.1% of Osnova Telekom, while Vitaly Yusufov, the son of former energy ministry Igor Yusufov, owns the remaining 74.99% stake.
The three largest mobile operators MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon would also be keen to receive LTE frequencies, but the Russian authorities reportedly want them to co-finance the conversion of the frequencies to LTE.
