Egypt’s Orascom Telecom is still in talks to sell some of its African assets after negotiations with MTN collapsed, Reuters reports quoting a local daily.
Last week, MTN and Orascom ended negotiations over a possible tie-up after the Algerian government refused that Orascom’s successful mobile operator Djezzy be sold to the South African company.
Back in April, TelecomFinance reported that Orascom’s advisers, Citigroup and Standard Bank, had been ready to release the information memorandum for the sale of Telecel Globe since early February but they were waiting for the final go ahead from the seller, which was dealing with disputes in Algeria and Egypt.
Telecel Globe has nine million subscribers in Burundi, 12 million users in Zimbabwe, four million in Central African Republic and two million in Namibia.
Orascom was not immediately available for comments.
