Number three operator Orange Spain has acquired MVNO Simyo from Dutch telco KPN.
The amount paid was not disclosed although a figure of €30m has been widely reported in the local press.
“This purchase reinforces Orange’s commitment in Spain and strengthens its position in the Spanish mobile market,” the company said in a statement.
KPN said the transaction was in line with its “strategy to divest non-core assets and to focus on its core footprint.”
Simyo is hosted by Orange’s network and the France Telecom subsidiary said that situation would not change and that the MVNO would continue to operate under its own brand.
Simyo has 380,000 customers. Following the acquisition, Orange’s total mobile customer base in Spain will amount to 12.2 million subscribers.
Media reports have linked Orange with an acquisition of the country’s number four operator Yoigo, which Swedish telco TeliaSonera is looking to sell.
