Orange plans to invest about E2bn by the end of 2015 in fibre optics in very densely populated areas in France.
As required by ARCEP’s rules, Orange will present its offer for sharing cables installed in buildings in February in very densely populated. The company said it was also open to different forms of co-investment with other operators in dense areas and has already signed an agreement with SFR to carry out operational tests in the towns of Palaiseau and Bondy. Orange said that it was also in discussions to extend the agreement to Free and a third town.
The operator said that for less dense areas it was open to partnerships with local authorities if the regulatory makes this possible through an intermediary stage based on ramping-up speeds on the existing fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) network.
In a release, the company said: “Orange shares the ambitions of national authorities to roll-out very high-speed broadband across the country with the aim of facilitating the development of digital communications tools and maintaining a competitive edge.”
Orange targets to be present in all French regions by 2012 and in all departments by 2015. At the end of September, it had 33,000 fibre service subscribers in France.
