The European Commission wants Hutchison to grant other network operators access to its network in return for antitrust approval for the takeover of Orange Austria, according to a report.
The proposed merger of the two operators, which would reduce the number of competitors in Austria from four to three, is currently subject of an in-depth investigation in Brussels. The Commission has concerns that the transaction could result in higher prices for consumers.
Austrian business publication Wirtschaftsblatt wrote with reference to insiders that the EC is prepared to clear the transaction if other players would gain access to Hutchison/Orange Austria’s network on an MVNO basis.
According to the report the Commission is already market testing the proposed remedy.
