The Austrian antitrust authority, BWB, wants to take over the European Commission’s ongoing investigation of the proposed sale of Orange Austria to 3 Hutchison. The BWB intends to submit a referral request, a spokesperson for the authority said.
The request will be made within the next few days.
The BWB is already investigating the proposed sale of Orange’s YESSS! subsidiary and other assets to Telekom Austria, which is part of the overall transaction.
The spokesperson argued that it would be easier if assessment of the overall transaction was done by a single regulator only
It is at the discretion of the EC to agree to a referral.
