The Polish units of France’s Orange and Germany’s Deutsche Telekom have extended their mobile network sharing agreement to include 4G technology.
Orange Polska (TPSA), which missed out on 4G spectrum at Poland’s February auction, announced that the companies have added an annex to their existing agreement to include 4G.
Orange Polska will be able to use T-Mobile Polska 4G frequencies for a consideration payable over 14 and a half years, according to the statement. Both operators aim to increase their 4G coverage and the co-operation agreement, in place since 2011, may be extended to include other frequency bands in future.
T-Mobile Polska and smaller rival P4 were the only operators to win spectrum at the February auction, paying PLN453.5m (US$144.8m) and PLN498m (US$158.9m) respectively for the frequencies. Polkomtel, Sferia and EmiTel also missed out.
