Everything Everywhere, the JV between UK mobile operators T-mobile and Orange, will open up its mobile networks to customers of both brands from October 5.
“Until now, the industry has been working in a single network environment,” said Tom Alexander, chief executive of Everything Everywhere.
“We have a vision of a ‘multinet’ world where the consumer will be able to access what they want, when they want, at the touch of a button. It will all be possible due to a complex system of interweaving multiple networks, bringing mobile, wifi and fixed technologies together to act as a super network.”
However, an Everything Everywhere spokesperson told TelecomFinance that for now its subscribers will only be able to access T-mobile’s 2G network, and vice-versa.
The spokesperson said: “Initially we’ll be sharing our 2G networks to enable our customers to keep in touch by call or text from more places, but sometime next year we’ll also be sharing our 3G networks.”
