French mobile operator Orange has been accredited by the French state as a healthcare data host, meaning it will be able to play an official role as an eHealth provider.
In an announcement, Orange said that it could now legally archive, store and host personal healthcare data produced by professionals, publishers and industrial players from the health sector, enabling collaborative work between health professionals, as well as telemedicine and hospital information system (SIH) mutualisation projects.
While health professionals and establishments are currently not required to gain any such accreditation, other groups such as (industrial players, health cooperation groups, publishers looking to host personal healthcare data must be accredited by the French ministry of health – ensuring that they are qualified to look after access control, traceability, healthcare data archiving and backup and human resources.
Orange’s executive vice president and head of orange healthcare division, Thierry Zylberberg, said: “For Orange, this accreditation is an indispensable sesame to launch our commercial offer of healthcare data hoster. And our new offer Orange Business Services Flexible computing Santé is an innovative infrastructure as a service solutions to host personnal healthcare data.”
