Australia’s second-largest mobile operator, Optus, has appointed Vic McClelland to lead its Optus Networks division.
McClelland, who most recently served as VP of technology strategy for internet services with Ericsson in Silicon Valley, will be responsible for strategic investment in mobile infrastructure and the day-to-day running of fixed, mobile and satellite networks. He will also oversee Optus’ 4G expansion.
His previous roles also included head of technology strategy for Vodafone Hutchison Australia and CTO for Hutchison Telecoms Australia.
McClelland will join the company on 4 November 2013 and will report to Optus CEO Kevin Russell.
Commenting on the appointment, Russell said: “His track record as a pioneer in the rollout of Australia’s first 3G network and recent work in Silicon Valley, where he has been at the forefront of technology innovation in network development and device ecosystems, speaks for itself.”
