Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov’s private investment fund Onexim is reportedly seeking to acquire a 10.5% stake in Rostelecom from fellow businessman Konstantin Malofeev’s investment firm Marshall Capital Partners.

Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov’s private investment fund Onexim is reportedly seeking to acquire a 10.5% stake in Rostelecom from fellow businessman Konstantin Malofeev’s investment firm Marshall Capital Partners.
Local business newspaper Vedomosti reported that Marshall Capital is asking for a price of Rbs51.6bn (US$1.7bn) for the stake in the state-controlled telco, or Rbs167 (US$5.55) per share. At the time of writing, Rostelecom’s ordinary shares last traded at Rbs127.57 (US$4.24).
According to the report, which cited unnamed sources, talks are currently focussed on price.
Both Onexim and Marshall Capital have declined to comment.
Rostelecom was not immediately available for comment.
Onexim’s current investment portfolio includes assets in metals, mining, energy, financial services, real estate and media.
