Oi’s CFO has said the operator is hoping to dispose of its 75% stake in Africatel by the end of the year.
In an exclusive interview with TelecomFinance, Flavio Nicolay Guimaraes said his company continued to work on the sale and hoped to reach a definitive agreement in the second half of the year.
Africatel holds stakes in several African operators, notably Angolan market leader Unitel, and became part of the Brazilian operator when it took over Portugal Telecom in 2014. Oi wants to sell the stake to help pare its debt pile.
The full interview with Guimaraes will be published in the April issue of TelecomFinance magazine, out on 24 April.
