European vendor Nokia Siemens Networks has announced it is to acquire Turkish engineering services firm IRIS Telecom for an undisclosed sum.
NSN expects the deal, which is part of plans to bolster network optimisation services across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, will be completed by early next year.
“3G and mobile broadband are driving the need to manage end-user experience while improving network efficiency,” said Mete Gokdemir, CEO, IRIS Telecom.
“While a fair portion of the region’s operators are still managing their networks in-house, we are seeing a growing trend toward outsourcing, given the higher complexities and competence requirements of managing IP networks.”
NSN will continue to use the Iris Telecom brand, and will not change the position of current CEO Mete Gokdemir. However, following the transaction, Johan Bruce, currently chairman of Iris Telecom, will be nominated executive director of the Turkish group as NSN looks to reform the board.
A spokesperson for NSN said the full Iris board will be announced once the acquisition, which is currently subject to regulatory approval, is completed.
