The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has said that it would no longer allocate 3G spectrum to new telecom operators due to a shortage of bandwidth, reported local website Republica.
All the frequencies are currently occupied by Nepal Telecom and Ncell, which means that licences can only be provided in the event that existing spectrum is reallocated, the website wrote citing NTA chairman Bhesraj Kandel.
He also reportedly defended the NTA’s decision to apply cheap 3G spectrum charges, compared to prices enforced in India for instance, arguing that telecom operators already have to pay high taxes to the government.
