Norwegian ISP NextGenTel has announced the departure of CEO Jan Dagfinn Midtun as part of efforts to revitalize its broadband business.
CFO Odd Bjorn Ur will serve as interim CEO until a replacement can be found for Midtun, a spokeswoman confirmed.
Midtun, who had held the role for five years, has no immediate plans for the future, she added.
NextGenTel, which is 100% owned by Swedish incumbent TeliaSonera, is facing significant competition in Norway, where it competes with Telenor, Get, Tele2 and Ventelo.
Malin Frenning, head of broadband services at TeliaSonera, said: “NextGenTel is currently coping with a tough broadband market in Norway at the same time as we are implementing major changes to our way of operating over national borders to maximize synergies throughout the group.
“In order to develop our Norwegian broadband business in the right direction, Jan Dagfinn and I both agreed that he should leave his position as CEO of NextGenTel.”
NextGenTel declined to comment further.
TeliaSonera reported SEK 36m (E4m) in EBITDA for its broadband services division in Norway for Q4 2010, compared with SEK 42m (E4.7m) for the corresponding period the year before.
