Two Colombian state-owned telcos, UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones and ETB, have appointed new leaders since the start of the new year.
UNE EPM is part of the publicly-owned EPM business group based in Medellin city. The Bogota city council holds a majority stake in ETB.
On 2 January, UNE EPM announced that its president Horacio Velez de Bedout was leaving and would be replaced, on a transitional basis, by David Escobar Arango.
The mayor of Medellin, Anibal Gaviria, tweeted yesterday that on 24 January he would be presenting Marc Eichmann as a candidate to take over the presidency of UNE EPM.
Eichmann has previously worked as a director of commercial strategy for Telefonica Movistar.
Meanwhile, the news website of Caracol Radio reported that ETB has appointed Saul Kattan Cohen as its new president.
Kattan reportedly said that when he assumed the role, the instruction of the Bogota mayor had been not to privatise ETB and to modernise and make it more efficient.
