Malaysian WiMax operator Packet One’s (P1) new controlling shareholder Telekom Malaysia (TM) and co-investors have appointed a new management team and board for the company.
On the management team, P1 CEO and managing director Puan Chan Cheong will be joined by Nora Junita Mohd Hussaini who will serve as chief financial and corporate affairs officer, the shareholders, which also include Green Packet and SK Telekom, said in a joint statement.
Yesterday, Cheong resigned from the CEO role at Green Packet, which is no longer P1’s controlling shareholder.
Other appointments include TM executive VP of SME, Azizi A Hadi, taking up the role of chief operating officer.
Meanwhile, TM group CEO Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa will serve as the chairman of the P1 board, which will also include other senior executives from the Malaysian incumbent telco.
“The new P1 board and rigorously-selected management line-up of capable executives from TM, Green Packet, SK Telekom and P1 form a strong organisation that is expected to fully capitalise on partnership synergies and execute P1’s future business strategies and entry into the mobile LTE space,” the shareholders said.
“The collaboration will enable TM to deliver the next generation of converged communication services and accelerate the rollout of LTE services via access to suitable spectrum assets, leveraging both SK Telekom’s expertise and P1’s existing customer base and the strong based of LTE upgradeable WiMax sites.”
TM completed its MR350m (US$106.3m) acquisition of a 55.3% stake in P1 in September. Green Packet and SK Telekom now hold 31.1% and 13.6% stakes respectively.
