Indian giant Bharti Airtel has picked P D Sarma as managing director of its mobile arm in Bangladesh.
Sarma is currently CEO of Bharti’s mobile operations in several Indian service areas: West Bengal, Kolkata, Odisha, Assam and Northeast.
He will replace Chris Tobit, who is expected to return to Bharti in India in a leadership role.
A spokesperson for the company was unable to comment further.
Bharti Airtel bought the remaining 30% it did not already own in the Bangladeshi operator from the Abu Dhabi Group last summer.
It is currently number four in the country, far behind Telenor’s Grameenphone, GTH’s Banglalink and Axiata’s Robi.
