Telefonica has put Carlos Morales Paulin in charge of its Mexican unit, moving him from his position as global MD of M2M.
He will report to Juan Abellan Rios, his predecessor at Telefonica Mexico, who has now been appointed as executive director of Telefonica Latin America for the northern region.
Abellan will oversee Telefonica’s Venezuelan and Central American businesses, alongside the Mexican unit, and will assist the company’s recently-appointed CEO of Latin America Eduardo Caride.
Telefonica is said to be looking at potential acquisitions in Mexico and was reported to have hired BBVA and Lazard to examine its strategic options. A merger with fellow mobile operator Iusacell has been touted.
