Vimpelcom’s Algerian subsidiary, Djezzy, is to be led by Ghada Gebara, the Russian company announced today.
Vimpelcom’s board is due to approve the appointment formally at a meeting on 17 June.
Vimpelcom CEO Jean-Yves Charlier said “We look forward to welcoming Ghada to our team. We are confident that her strong sector knowledge and experience will take to the next level our operations in Algeria to drive growth and improved performance.”
She moves from Iraqi mobile operator Korek Telecom, where she had been CEO since August 2011.
Ghada has also been CEO at Digicel in Haiti from 2005 to 2007, and at Digicel’s French-speaking markets in the Caribbean region and Honduras.
As Djezzy CEO, she will work closely with Global Telecom Holding (GTH) CEO and Djezzy executive chairman, Vincenzo Nesci.
Djezzy is owned by Algerian sovereign wealth fund FNI (51%) and GTH (49%), an Egypt-based subsidiary of Vimpelcom. GTH, despite being the junior shareholder, has operational control.
Ghada has an Executive MBA from the University of Quebec in Montreal, a telecom engineer Diploma from the Institute des telecom National (INT) and a Masters in Information Systems from the University of Le Havre in France. She is a French citizen and will be resident in Algiers.
