Sood was previously head of Telenor’s Bangladesh subsidiary Grameenphone. Replacing him at Grameenphone is its chief marketing officer Rajeev Sethi.
Sigve Brekke, Telenor’s head of Asia, said: “We respect [Sorby’s] decision to step down in order to take care of his immediate family, who is based in Sweden, and look forward to continuing to working with him in a new role in Telenor Group.”
The changes will take effect from 1 December, although Sorby will remain as an adviser to Uninor until the beginning of next year. He had been CEO of Uninor since January 2014.
