Vivek Sood has been appointed CEO of Bangladeshi telco Grameenphone, effective from 7 January 2013.
Sood was previously executive VP and CFO of Indian mobile carrier Uninor, which like Grameenphone is a subsidiary of Scandinavian telco group Telenor.
The new CEO succeeds Tore Johnsen, who has been appointed senior VP at the Telenor Group’s Asia office, based in Bangkok.
“The board of directors is very pleased to appoint Vivek Sood as Grameenphone’s new CEO,” said Sigve Brekke, executive VP of Telenor Group, and chairman of the board of Grameenphone. ”I am confident that his experience from one of the world’s most competitive mobile markets will benefit Grameenphone in further developing its position as the country’s leading mobile operator.”
