Telekom Austria (TA) has named Thanasis Katsiroumpas as the new CEO of its Bulgarian unit Mobiltel.
Currently head of TA’s Serbian unit Vip mobile, Katsiroumpas will start his new role at the beginning of October.
He replaces Andreas Maierhofer, who has decided not to extend his contract and to return to Austria after 10 years in executive management positions abroad.
Because Katsiroumpas will also be in charge of marketing at Mobiltel, CMO Martin Lippautz is leaving the group at his own request.
Vip mobile CFO Andreas Graf will serve as the company’s interim CEO/CMO.
Commenting on the personnel changes, TA CEO Hannes Ametsreiter noted that Bulgaria is currently the group’s most difficult market. “With Thanasis Katsiroumpas we were able to recruit an excellent expert on the Bulgarian market and one of the most experienced telecom top managers within the group for the challenging task,” he said.
Before starting as CEO of Vip mobile in May 2010, Katsiroumpas was CEO of Bulgaria’s second largest mobile operator Globul, then owned by Greek incumbent OTE. He has also worked for mobile retailer Germanos and Greek mobile operator Stet Hellas.
