UK-based New Call Telecom is reportedly in talks to acquire Indian ISP Nextra Teleservices in an effort to expand its footprint in the country.
The Economic Times cited a spokesperson for New Call as saying the ISP is among several companies it is talking to regarding a potential acquisition.
Nextra president Kapil Dev Kumar reportedly confirmed the negotiations, but noted that nothing has been decided yet.
A source familiar with the matter was cited as saying Nextra, which is yet to turn a profit, could be worth Rs250m to Rs300m (US$4m to US$5m).
Neither New Call nor Nextra was immediately available for comment.
New Call, which provides residential telecoms services, announced last August that it planned to invest US$100m in India over the next 18 months, targeting mid-level telcos providing innovative value-added services in the broadband space.
In October, New Call acquired a 70% stake in Indian mobile messaging app Nimbizz for about US$175m.
Founded in 2012, Nextra provides services to individual and business customers in Delhi and surrounding area.
