Polish fixed-line telco Netia is reportedly set to announce a partnership with local mobile carrier P4, which operates under the brand name Play, potentially paving the way toward a merger.
Netia will soon reveal that it is forming a mobile partnership with Play, with which it is currently cooperating, Reuters cited a source with knowledge of the matter as saying.
It is easier for Netia, the country’s second-largest telco, to establish financial ties with an existing partner, the source reportedly noted.
A Netia spokesman said the company does not comment on rumours and speculations, but added that he will be able to clarify the situation on Monday.
Netia confirmed last August that it planned to pick either Polkomtel (Plus) or Play, the number three and four mobile players respectively, as a partner to help it realise its new strategy.
P4 is controlled by funds owned by Greek businessman Panos Germanos and Iceland’s Thor Bjorgolfsson.
