Greg Adcock has become the new chief operating officer (COO) of NBN Co, the public company tasked with implementing Australia’s national broadband network (NBN).
Adcock, who replaces Ralph Steffens, joins the company from Telstra where he was most recently charged with delivering on the incumbent’s infrastructure commitments under its agreements with NBN Co.
The new COO is third person to join NBN Co from Telstra since the Coalition replaced the Labor party at the federal election in September.
Ziggy Switkowski, the new chairman and interim CEO of the national broadband company, served as CEO of Telstra between 1999 and 2004. JB Rousselot, the new head of strategy, was also an ex-Telstra executive.
Under the NBN plan, the former Labor government had been aiming to expand high-speed broadband internet access to all Australians by 2021. But the Liberal-National coalition, now in power, has long criticised the cost of and delays in the project and pledged to address those issues.
Some of the steps which the Coalition said it will take include renegotiating NBN Co’s agreements with Telstra to gain access to its copper assets.
