Spanish businessman Javier Hidalgo and investment group Grupo Atento have acquired the MVNO Pepephone for an undisclosed amount from tourist group Globalia.
In a statement, Pepephone said that Hidalgo had increased his stake in Pepephone from 9% to 50% through the investment vehicle JHG Investment. Atento has also acquired a 50% stake.
Javier Hidalgo is the son of Globalia’s executive president, Juan Jose Hidalgo.
While Pepephone did not release the value of the transaction, Spanish newspaper El Economista reported that sources with knowledge of the deal had said late in 2011 that the price would be about €50m.
