Polish cableco Multimedia Polska has signed an agreement with mobile operator Polkomtel which will enable it to enter the mobile market as an MVNO.
The agreement will see Polkomtel, which operates under the brand name Plus, grant Multimedia Polska wholesale access to its mobile network, the cableco said in a statement. Multimedia Polska will be able to offer a full range of mobile services, including roaming.
Multimedia Polska is looking to launch its mobile services by the end of the year. The companies expect their cooperation to increase in future, the statement read.
Last week, Poland’s largest media group Cyfrowy Polsat agreed to buy a majority stake in the holding company that owns Polkomtel in a PLN5.15bn (US$1.65bn) deal. Cyfrowy also aims to acquire the remaining shares in Polkomtel from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ERBD).
Poland’s four mobile network operators are Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile, Orange, Plus and Play.
