Russian operator MTS has bought Teleradiokompania TVT, a cable and fixed broadband services provider in the republic of Tatarstan.
MTS will pay US$162m for TVT and assumes its debt of US$17.1m.
The company said the acquisition would allow it to enter the pay-TV, broadband and fixed telephony in the region.
“This acquisition is in line with the MTS strategy aimed at building the leading integrated telecommunications operator in Russia. We see great potential for growth of broadband internet usage in Tatarstan and will invest in further development and modernization of the region’s fixed-line networks. The acquisition of TVT enables MTS to enhance its position and strengthen its brand in the promising Tatarstan market through the launch of convergent offerings and innovative products,” Andrei Revkov, director for MTS Volga Region, said.
TVT is present in 15 cities of Tatarstan and has a total subscriber base of 500,000. MTS claims that it is the largest pay TV provider in the cities of Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny with market shares of 55% and 72% respectively.
