The Belarusian government plans to launch a fresh tender process to sell its 51% stake in telco MTS Belarus, although no date has yet been set.
State Property Committee deputy chairman Alexei Vasilyev told reporters that the state believes the value of its shares in the telco, in which Russian mobile operator MTS owns the remaining 49% stake, remains unchanged from the last sales attempt, Belarusian news agency Belta reported.
The state last attempted to sell its shares in February 2014, but rejected a US$400m-US$500m offer from Moscow-based MTS as too low. The asking price was US$863m, down from the US$1bn requested in previous sales attempts since 2011.
Vasilyev reportedly said that the government cannot name the specific date upon which it will launch the new sales process but said work to sell the shares will continue.
Minsk-based MTS Belarus is the country’s largest mobile network operator.
