State-owned Indian operator MTNL is to launch a new tender to find a franchise partner for its 3G operations, according to local reports.
MTNL chairman and managing director Kuldeep Singh reportedly said that the tender would be launched by June, with Spice and Virgin Mobile likely to be two of the companies shortlisted.
In July 2009 the MTNL had invited bids from companies interested in a revenue sharing franchise deal. Both Spice and Virgin were in the running before the process was halted by a regulatory issue.
MTNL was reserved a 3G licence for the circles of Delhi and Mumbai and may look to raise some bank debt in order to pay.
