MTN Swaziland has lost a court case seeking to stop telecoms incumbent and regulator Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corp (SPTC) from offering mobile services, according to reports.
The tribunal reportedly decided that there was no conflict of interest since the state-owned telecoms operator no longer held a stake in MTN Swaziland. SPTC’s 41% stake in MTN Swaziland was transferred to the ministry of finance.
South Africa’s MTN Group owns 30% of MTN Swaziland, while the country’s King Mswati III holds 10% and Swaziland Empowerment Group the rest.
MTN Swaziland is currently the only mobile operator in the Southern African country
