South Africa-based telecoms company MTN Group is still looking for acquisition opportunities, mainly in Africa and the Middle East.
During the company’s annual results today, CEO Sifiso Dabengwa said that bolt-on, stand alone deals remain a priority and that MTN was targeting number one and number two operators in particular.
Dabengwa also explained that the company could increase its ownership in existing assets and may consider transformational M&As but only on an opportunistic basis.
MTN is already present in many African and Middle Eastern countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.
The operator has recently been invited by rival Vodacom to evaluate options for the latter’s operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
